Queer Fertility Support

Braw Birth provides the only Queer Fertility Doula Service across Scotland and the UK.

Why did I create Queer Fertility Support?

I created the service because, as a queer person myself, I found it very daunting and overwhelming to find the right fertility information. I also felt very isolated with no emotional or service support that considered my lived experience or fertility needs in being part of the Queer community.

I want other LGBT+ and Queer people to have more meaningful and supportive experiences in their own fertility journeys.

Why the service is needed.

Fertility support is an essential service for LGBT and Queer people looking to add to or create their families.

However, many LGBT and Queer people feel invisible, unrepresented or misunderstood when looking for fertility support or inclusive information.

Mainstream support and information does not accurately reflect the diversity within the community.

You deserve to have fertility support that reflects your lived experience and needs with Queer-informed research and resources.

You also deserve to feel considered, included and in the lead of any decisions that help you build upon your family.

The fertility doula support is for anyone;

  • Contemplating or considering fertility support.

  • If you are going through avenues of independent fertility.

  • You are waiting for assisted conception through a fertility clinic whether public or private.

  • You are currently going through treatment and are looking for some more support through the process.

Different routes of support are offered.

There are one-to-one Adhoc fertility workshops offered on the Workshops and Training page of the site.

The fertility doula support packages are curated based on the duration of support you feel fits best with your current situation. Packages are offered in 3, 6, 12 and 18 month models.

Braw Birth’s Waiting Room is a specific support group for Queer people contemplating or waiting for fertility treatment.

Packages of Fertility Doula Support

All fertility doula packages include:

  • Working with you for a fixed amount of time in a bespoke progressive program of emotional, physical and informational support.

  • Sessions are created on the topics of your choice. They help you process your feelings, gain more information and knowledge and increase your confidence in making informed choices that feel right for you,

  • Develop a treatment preparation plan with you so you feel prepared and in the lead of your treatment options as much as possible. The plan gives you a chance to mentally prepare for different outcomes and know what direction you want to take or forgo at different points in your journey.

  • Call, email, text and Zoom support throughout the process.

  • Appointment debriefing; give you space to process afterwards and be there to discuss your options with you.

  • Post-procedure planning and care

  • Give you space and support to both celebrate treatment successes and any barriers to treatment or potential loss.

  • Avenues of referral to local community groups or more specialised support.
